SAG 2025 – Application open!

The Austrian Act on Securing Business Locations 2025 (Standortabsicherungsgesetz – SAG 2025) was passed already in autumn 2025, however, approval under state aid law by the European Commission is still pending. The Austrian federal government now decided to stop waiting for green light from Brussels and opened the application window for the 2025 funding year as well as released provisional funding guidelines on 13 April 2026. 

Application process

Therefore, for indirect carbon costs to be submitted for the calendar year 2025, the application period started on 13 April 2026. Applications are submitted via the Fördermanager of Austria Wirtschaftsservice Gesellschaft (aws).

Granting and payment of the funding in question is subject to approval under state aid law by the European Commission.

Despite pending approval, we recommend preparing the required documents including the confirmation from an auditor or tax advisor in near term.

Outlook

In order to provide companies with planning certainty, the funding instrument in question is expected to be extended until 2029 as part of the Industrial Strategy 2035. Additionally, from 2027, an industrial electricity price will be introduced to specifically relieve and sustainably strengthen the Austrian industry. For both funding instruments, a yearly funding volume of in total EUR 250 million will be available from the funding year 2027.
