The European Commission recently approved the funding guidelines for the Austrian Act on Securing Business Locations 2025 (SAG 2025). This measure aims to relieve energy-intensive companies from their indirect CO2 costs.

The application time frame for the funding year 2025 has already been opened in advance by the Austrian Federal Government and submitting applications is possible since 13 April 2026. Funding applications can be submitted until 30 September 2026.

We recommend preparing the required documents for submitting applications including the confirmation from an auditor or tax advisor in near term.

Information on the application process (“SAG 2025 – Application open!” dated 16 April 2026) and the requirements (“Austrian Act on Securing Business Locations 2025 (Standortabsicherungsgesetz – SAG 2025)” dated 20 November 2025) can be found in our newsletters.

The funding instrument is planned to be extended until 2029, with a total funding budget of EUR 750 million for the years 2027 to 2029 (maximum EUR 250 million per year). For costs incurred from 2027 onwards, an extended (partial) sector list will apply.
