With the “Transformation of the Industry” funding, the Austrian Federal Ministry for Economy, Energy and Tourism (BMWET) supports the maximum possible reduction of greenhouse gas emissions (GHG emissions) from the direct combustion of fossil fuels or directly from industrial production processes in Austria. The aim is to promote the decarbonisation of the industry by 2040 and to strengthen Austria as an industrial and economic location. For this purpose, a total of EUR 2.975 billion is available under the Austrian Environmental Funding Act (UFG) until 2030.
The programme includes separate calls for applications for an investment grant and a transformation grant. A combination of funding from both calls for the same measure is not possible.
Applications for an investment grant or a transformation grant must be submitted online by 17 September 2026, 2:00 p.m. (CEST).
The investment grant is intended to fund measures that lead to a significant reduction of greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) from the existing production process within the company.
The grant is paid out as a one-time payment on the condition that the measure has been implemented and the GHG reduction can be verified. The positive environmental effect must be maintained for at least 10 years from the start of operation and the beginning of the recording of the GHG reduction by the new unit or facility.
A total budget of EUR 140 million is available for this call. The maximum funding is capped at EUR 100 million per application.
The additional costs of a renewable energy source compared to fossil fuels are funded by the transformation grant if the investment is made in a climate-friendly technology over a period of up to 10 years.
The ongoing costs are funded in the form of a compensation for the cost difference between the existing fossil fuels and the new renewable energy sources as well as non-energy-related costs such as the proportionate investment costs. The payment is made each year over a period of up to 10 years from the first year of operation, with the payment amount being determined again every year.
A total budget of EUR 130 million is available for this call.
