Why PwC?

Care for Community

In order to make a difference, we have to change things. It is our strength to stand by our colleagues and clients as reliable partner and not only to contribute our expertise. We design sustainable solutions that actually have an impact by close cooperation and exchange of knowledge and ideas. We coach, develop and work hand in hand to achieve the best results – for all of us.

Our Culture

Our company culture is composed of three elements:

Evolved PwC Professional: EPP

At PwC, our purpose is to build trust in society and solve important problems. In Austria, we support our clients in many areas as one-stop shop. The public sector, banking institutions as well as local and global leading companies – from family run businesses to global corporations – have all come to appreciate our expertise.

“We are a Community of Solvers” – We deliver fresh ideas, solutions by people for people, supported by trendsetting technology. Whether you begin via a trainee programme, are directly hired, do an internship or work while studying; whether you are passionate about numbers, laws, technology or the environment: We bet on innovative people, bringing their personal expertise to our international network.

We do not only work with but also for purpose and meaning. We emphasise quality, integrity and inclusive cooperation in everything we do. Our values are the basis of our daily actions. Having a clear vision of what is significant, we are committed to be successful together and to personal growth.

Together they make up our Evolved PwC Professional (EPP) – a framework based on the two dimensions “Trusted Leadership” and “Distinctive Outcomes”. Regardless of the grade, intern, manager, partner, ... – the EPP determines how we make a contribution for ourselves, our clients and the communities, for which we operate.

Learning and Growing

Working in a dynamic environment proves daily: you live and learn. Together we define your individual development focus and allow for important training steps through coaching, further education, interdisciplinary projects or learning leave.

Everyday Life
We acquire the largest part of our knowledge in our daily tasks that we are assigned – this is how we grow. This is how we gain valuable experience: in our teams and working with our clients.

Dialogue
Exchanging experiences with others promotes learning on a day-to-day basis. Whether it is with colleagues or with your supervisors. Dialogue is crucial.
Personal Coaches support you during your entire career at PwC and provide regular feedback.

DEI – Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

Our society is transforming, markets change and clients’ requests are becoming increasingly complex. We counter this development with more diversity and a higher level of expertise. This is how we work in our teams and in leadership.

Different ways of thinking, experiences, trainings, needs and cultures makes us what we are. It is our Inclusion & Diversity Team’s heartfelt desireaim to ensure an accessible working environment free of discrimination. The team continuously takes measures to maintain our high standard. We are a longstanding partner of MyAbility, we are happy that our queer business network SHINE is growing well, we promote equality in business with our Women Network – and we will never tire to provide all talents the environment they need to rise above themselves.

Why do we emphasise Inclusion & Diversity?

  1. Because we need the best talents to solve today's challenges in the best possible way. Talent is as diverse as it is unique and does not only relate to factors such as age, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, religion and/or disability!
  2. Because we desire to meet our clients’ expectations: The composition of our teams and how we as global player handle Inclusion & Diversity are becoming increasingly important.
  3. Because it is the right thing to do: Fairness and objectivity are cornerstones of our company culture. This also applies to the mindset and development of our employees.

Our Initiatives and Partnerships

Fighting prejudices starts at your everyday (working) life. We raise awareness of our employees for the danger of unconscious biases and how to overcome them in everyday life through targeted workshops and trainings. In this way, everyone actively contributes to an inclusive working environment – an important step towards the culture of Inclusion.

MyAbility, a consulting firm supporting companies in leveraging the potentials of people with disabilities, either as clients or as employees, supports us since 2016. We are happy to regularly participate at the myAbility Talent® programme, connecting high-achieving students with disabilities or chronic diseases to Austrian companies. Before getting to know PwC in detail by means of exciting job shadowing, young talents benefit from tailored career workshops and job coaching in a first step.

Furthermore, we have been supporting the annual main event of the myAbility Business Forum for years now, in order to improve visibility of business and disability. The DisAbility Confidence Day has become a well-established event of the Austrian business community and a voice for more inclusion.

We would like to particularly encourage people with disabilities to apply with us. If you have any questions regarding the application process or if you need any assistance, Denise-Celine Pfneiszl is happy to help anytime. Please do not hesitate to contact her to ensure together the best possible support for your application. You can reach her via the contact form linked here.

We have signed the Charta of Diversity, a “voluntary commitment” of Austrian companies, institutions and organisations. By signing the Charter, companies commit to appreciating all members of society – without exceptions. In doing so, as the first large accounting firm we have set an example in 2016.

Why does sexual identity matter on the job? At PwC, we openly address this topic. Work and private life are separated, of course, but inevitably, we bring a part of ourselves to work. A colleague talking about their vacation with their partner or about moving in with their partner is absolutely normal for us at PwC – it is a part of each and every one of us. At PwC it is not only about tolerance, but also about full acceptance. This is why we actively take care of the LGBTQIA+ community’s needs, promote networking and support all employees through regular events of our Shine Network – irrespective of their sexuality or identity.

Such as many Austrian companies, also PwC Austria supports the initiative of RBI to end discrimination in blood donation. It is our goal to create a work environment in which everyone can be themselves. What this means is that nobody is excluded from our blood donation activities based on their sexual orientation or their identity. Experts say exclusions like this are not necessary from a medical and legal point of view.

Together, we did it: A new Blood Donation Ordinance is in force since September 2022, which only takes into account the individual risk of sexually transmitted diseases (“3-3-3 rule”).

More than 50% of PwC Austria’s employees are female, and the percentage of women in leading roles is above 40% – but this is by far not enough for us. Forming a joint counterbalance against discrimination in business requires a strong network. The members of our Women Network actively promote exchange amongst women and support all female colleagues to bring out the very best in themselves and write a success story. The Women Network organises regular meetings as well as formats to exchange knowledge and for mutual inspiration, next to interdisciplinary networking.

Parental part-time and parental leave models offer the flexibility required for harmonising professional development with the role as a parent. In particular, part-time working and individual working models are decisive to reconcile being an active parent with the job’s requirements

We actively support including fathers and encourage them to take their parental leave. As employer it is our responsibility to support families and offer solutions – since this is beneficial not only for parents and their children, but also for the company.

Wellbeing

We are especially grateful to our employees for working independently, for their flexibility and team spirit. In our industry, we need to display commitment and perseverance on a daily basis. This is why we look after us and others in our team – because our physical and mental well-being are our most valuable assets.

Our steps for a healthy work environment:

Flexibility is not just a strategy but a mindset. We promote a work environment characterised by mutual respect, finding joy in work and responsibility.

Since 2010, we continuously work on improving reconciliation of work, family and private life, for which we were awarded the quality label “Audit berufundfamilie” for the fifth time. Our family-friendly commitment is based on a comprehensive definition of family, including all people close to the employee. Thus, we create a modern and flexible company culture, meeting the needs of various phases and circumstances of life.

Within the audit, we have developed extensive measures to promote work-life balance including:

  • Flexible working models and part-time working models, including the executive level
  • Flex work, home office and working on the road
  • Learning leave and reduced working hours in exam phases while studying
  • Activity-based working, offering work environments tailored to specific task
  • Support from parental leave services such as parental leave folders and advice on returning to the job
  • Family time: In addition to two days after the birth of a child as required by law, we give all expecting parents three additional days
  • Childcare at Leopoldi holiday
  • Events such as events for children, office tours and parental leave breakfasts strengthen the bond between families and the workplace

"There is not much you can get wrong. The only wrong thing is to look the other way.”

#MentalHealthMatters: According to the WHO, almost one in three persons suffers from at least one mental illness over the course of a lifetime. Nevertheless, it is still difficult for many to talk about it or ask for help. In acute situations, during mental crises and stressful situations, both in personal and professional life, it is important to act quickly and initiate the right rescue chain. Therefore, PwC Austria supports “Mental Health First Aid”.

Already in the first round of our initiative, 27 colleagues with various backgrounds of several PwC locations have successfully completed a training as a certified “Mental Health First Aider”. Thanks to their trained awareness, they detect early warning signs of mental stress at the workplace and are the first contact and confidant for our colleagues. As Mental Health First Aiders, they always have a sympathetic ear and support employees to take the right steps during crises, since there is no overall health without mental health, both in professional and private life.

As employer we take our responsibility for mental health seriously and grant our employees quick and straightforward access to professional psychological counselling free of charge via our partner Instahelp. The counselling services include diverse issues from sleep deprivation and parenting issues to workplace stress.

Regular Health Events with inspiring speakers and mental health trainings offer tips & tricks for your mental health.

Our company physician offers annual medical check-ups, medical counselling and vaccinations.
